BIOGRAPHY
Mr Joy Paul Guilford was born on March 7, 1897 in NEBRASKA, USA. He is well remembered for Psychometric studies of Human Intelligence and Creativity. He explored the Multidimensional aspects of the human mind.
Structure of Intellect
According to Mr Guilford, Intelligence consists of numerous intellectual abilities. He first proposed model with 120 then 150 and finally 180 independently operating factors in intelligence. He proposed a three dimensional cubical model to explain the theory of the structure of intellect.
These factors were then organised along three dimensions:
1. Operations
2. Contents
3. Products
Operations refers to the intellectual activities or mental processes used by persons. These are:
1. Cognition
2. Memory Recording
3. Memory Retention
4. Divergent Production
5. Convergent Production
6. Evaluation
Contents are the various kinds of information that exist in the environment and on which operations are carried out.
These are:
1. Visual
2. Auditory
3. Symbolic
4. Semantic
5. Behavioural
Products are the result of operating on the contents. They are the bits of knowledge we aquire after processing the environmental stimuli. They refer to the form of thought produced by individuals.
These are:
1. Units
2. Class
3. Relation
4. System
5. Transformation
6. Implication
